The Kitrinos are sometimes compared to the Kianos, but are also sometimes called the most average of the five family factions. In truth, they are not so much the most average and plain as the most agile and versatile in their situation. Their military strength is somewhat lacking and cannot compare well when put up next to the Kokkinos or Kianos, but they still have some power. The thing about them is that they are very self-sufficient and do not do too much trading, which results in less wealth, but a sturdier economy. Their family color is orange and their animal is a leopard.
While Alithra is very much a gender-equality state, the Kitrinos are more matriarchal than other families. Women are more likely to get higher ranks and privileges than men, and also make up a larger portion of the military than other places. The family wealth and lines normally run through the women, marriages are decided more by the mother than the father, and daughters are the preferred offspring.
The Kitrinos do have famed things about them, though, aside from the matriarchy that make them stand out. Their most famed aspect is their horse breeding; their horses are known as the cream of the cream, better than anything else in Alithra or Mistros. It also is a main source of income, but allows their cavalry to be more powerful than many others. As an export, it is the most valuable for the Kitrinos and allows them to fund things that might need actual money.
Because of their focus on agriculture and more peaceful means, the Kitrinos have a very strong emphasis on diplomacy, and it is used first, rather than force, in order to get out of sticky situations. Many people see them as submissive, but the terms of the diplomacy often are actually in favor of the Kitrinos, though they have a reputation for fairness and deals that are agreeable to both parties.
The appearance of the Kitrinos family is, generally, fairly light, like the Kianos. The Kitrinos, however, have a higher variety of darker eyed members as well as more dirty blonde and light brown hair rather than golden. Their skin is a more average color, not as pale as others. They are not as dark as the Prasinos, however, nor as reddish as the Hrisos.
Claim to the throne: The sister of the queen, who disappeared with her son according to all of the documents of the time, was the general who ended up laying the foundations of the Kitrinos faction and became its leader. It is only rumor and conjecture that the queen and prince survived after the king died, and so it is only logical and natural to go to the closest living relative, who happened to be this sister as the king had no relatives closer than a distant cousin. The other families, the Kitrinos claim, base their arguments on stories and fables while theirs is based on actual facts and contemporary law. [/blockquote]
