| [atrb=style, font-family: Verdana; word-spacing: 1px; text-align: justify; background: #9E6130; border: 1px dashed #E6BF63; color: #E6D88C; padding: 2px; opacity: 0.8]Age: 24 years Sex: Male Faction Affiliation: Kianos Family: Alexandros Kianos (father); Agapia Kianos (mother); some younger brothers and sisters Rank/Job: Prota/politician (governor of Nikapolis). Upper class; for all intents and purposes, heir.
Appearance: To begin with the most essential things, Leokrates is blonde and has bright blue-green eyes. He is pale to a point, but not so much so that his skin looks like ivory, due to his being outside quite a bit. As for his hair style, it is naturally wavy, and he often keeps it somewhat loose, so that the waves are not packed in tightly. A naturally not-so-hairy guy, too, he easily keeps his face clear of any sort of extra hair besides his eyebrows and, you know, hair (head… hair). When his hair is short or pulled back in any way, his funny ears show, ears that are large and round and stick out just a tad, but seem to complete his face and fit him. Facial hair is something that he does his best to avoid completely because, in his opinion, it makes the wearer look somewhat disheveled or unsophisticated, although he finds it difficult to flee from because he often forgets to shave – he gets very enthusiastic and loses his focus on banal things such as grooming for a while. But, hey, that’s why there are slaves, right?
He is on the tallish side at 6’3”, but isn’t ridiculously muscular Since he has been in the colonies, he has been training more with the soldiers and has gained bulk, but mostly it’s an appearance thing. He is not a heavy lifter or a soldier for battle, but an officer, a wealthy man who stays back, out of the thick of things. His weight is 210 pounds; his build is a sort of medium, allowing him to have bulk without looking strange but also not a massive meathead or a skinny skariph– somewhat different from his very bulky father. If war actually breaks out, though, he surely will grow more muscular (and probably get some scars), as he will be working out constantly on the battlefield trying to stay alive.
Leokrates’s general appearance, too, is not very “masculine” in the common sense of the word, mainly because of his general mien; were he anyone else, he probably would seem to be very “manly”, in all that word implies. His jaw seems carved from marble, and his general features are just strong and powerful – traits he has to thank from his father, since Leokrates looks almost exactly like him – but he embodies the pretty boy with his clean and his bright, clear blue-green eyes with his tousle of golden locks, which may grow darker as he ages. As a young man who has never been involved in an actual battle, he is without scars (except for those random little ones that he got from accidentally scratching himself in his sleep, but those really don’t count because he’s too pale for them to be noticeable). His skin is very smooth and rather soft to the touch, compliments to the frequent baths and olive oil.

Personality: Very different from his father, Leokrates is a naturally cheery, friendly, amicable fellow who loves near nothing more than meeting new people and befriending them. While this is perhaps the biggest part of his personality, along with his good-naturedness and his constant humor, can also allow him to be quite manipulative and uncover things that will help him get ahead in his goals. While he does not act like this often, it does come up, especially when his father commands it of him. Leokrates’s friendliness attracts many to him, as he just has a warm aura about him and a quick smile, which fuels his energy and enthusiasm, as he is certainly an extrovert. Leokrates is generally a happy person who always seems to walk with a bounce in his step; energetic and enthusiastic, his passion carries him through difficult times that can cripple others. Perhaps he can come across as too friendly sometimes, and sometimes falls into a borderline flirtatious manner with nearly everyone; he can, however, read many people and shift his mannerisms to fit them, which makes him a very apt speaker and communicator.
This charisma of Leokrates enables him to be a worthwhile leader in the hazardous new lands of the colonies. Naturally a diplomat, Leokrates is always looking for a way to solve problems to please everyone involved or at least without violence. Some may call him cowardly, but he would remark that he merely has a greater value for the worth of life and that it is not so easy for him to waste his subjects’ lives in peacefully solvable conflicts. Along with this, he is a very intelligent man who is keen and capable, able to resolve most issues swiftly. Responsibility is something that Leokrates takes seriously, a trait drilled into him by his father and the rest of his family; nothing comes before his people in Leokrates’s mind.
Some things that may not be so pleasing about Leokrates are that he loves to relax and just have fun instead of doing trivial work, he sometimes appears to be something of a hedonist, and he is prefers to avoid all chances of danger to his life or appearance. While he is not a hedonist, Leokrates very much appreciates beauty and the aesthetic qualities of things, sometimes more than their actual substance. While some people think this could be a flaw in finding deeper, meaningful relationships, Leokrates would disagree and feels that in, in fact, helps because he enjoys finding beauty in everything from the simplest dew drop to the way a person’s lip curls when he laughs.
History: Leokrates was born to two of the most powerful people in Alithra: Alexandros Kianos and Agapia Kianos. Alexandros was, from a very young age, a stoic and hard man who had a knack for leading and making tough decisions. It is thanks almost entirely to him that the Kianos have grown so wealthy in the past few decades, as his leadership earned the Kianos the first and most valuable location in Mistros. Agapia, a prominent Kianos woman of excellent breeding and capability, married Alexandros with ambition being the driving motivation on each side. They were very distant cousins. Alexandros is openly gay, and Agapia shows no desire for an actual romance. Leokrates was brought into the world with the sole purpose of ruling it, as Alexandros and Agapia looked at the possible claims for the royal line and decided that the Kianos’s claim was strongest. Not too distantly in the past, the claims to the royal line were mere rumors, silly things dismissed as hogwash, but now, thanks in part to Leokrates’s parents – for him – it is a major theme.
Leokrates had everything he ever could have wanted: a beautiful home, loving people surrounding him, successful role models, luxurious furniture and gifts, and all the books and leisure time in the world. There was, of course, some stress on him, but very little compared to others; his very existence would often be considered stress inducing, but he knows nothing else, and so the stress of it does not hit him quite as hard as it might hit some others. His father was not particularly affectionate toward him, but his mother was loving enough for Leokrates – he had slaves and friends to support him there. While he was young, Leokrates was forced to consume some poisons in order to make him immune to them, so assassination attempts would not be as likely to be successful. Through his childhood, Leokrates was often sick and forced to remain indoors, but not enough to become a whiney invalid. At one point, there was perhaps a risk of that happening, but the fates disagreed that day.
When Leokrates was still young, Agapia gave birth to other children, and the pressures of Leokrates’s position in life were lifted slightly with each sibling; he no longer was the only one who had the destiny of the Kianos on his shoulders. As he grew older, he grew closer to his siblings – some more than others – and began to appreciate the beauty of what was around him for the first time. He appreciated his mother’s more graceful diplomatic work, but also the intricate ways that his father was able to coerce and conquer with deftness and minor casualties. When he thought about it, it seemed as though he would never be able to live up to his parents’ reputations and to the goals they set for him, but, at the same time, it seemed like a challenge: How could he fulfill everyone’s expectations of greatness in a surprising way? In a new way? In a way that expressed who he was?
Alexandros sent scouts and soldiers to take some discovered land when Leokrates was a preteen. The idea excited him and had a certain mystical lure for him; what sort of magic, what sort of mystery, did these places possess? So, obviously, when Leokrates was in his early twenties and his father commanded him to become the governor of the colony of Nikapolis, Leokrates leapt on the chance with greedy glee. Every so often, Leokrates would visit Alithra or his parents would visit him – not both at once, of course – but his new home was in Nikapolis.
Leokrates took his tutor along with him when he went to Nikapolis, among other slaves, and used him as an advisor. This was how it worked for about a year and a half when, upon a visit from his father, there was a huge banquet. Archon Alexandros told Leokrates that he should begin focusing more on the military aspects, securing safe locations in Mistros, in addition to continued diplomatic issues – but let the spotlight remain on the military. When Leokrates inquired why, Alexandros responded sternly that the world was going to get a lot more dangerous very soon. Leokrates then was about to bite into the next dish that arrived from the kitchen first when his tutor, his food taster, fell over and, quite gruesomely, died. Alexandros took a drink from his wine goblet, half-smiled wryly, and said, “Exactly my meaning, son.” Leokrates bought another few food tasters after that and started trying to immunize himself to other poisons.
It turned out to be the previous governor who had been trying to poison both Alexandros and Leokrates. They discovered this a week after the attempt when he was trying to flee in the harbor on a smuggler’s ship. He was imprisoned, interrogated, and then publically executed by self-poisoning. According to him, he was unjustly removed from his position and the replacement was far too inexperienced.
Nikapolis, thus far, has been run fairly well, but there is the complaint and evidence that Leokrates is young and inexperienced. While his father did come to power at a very young age, Leokrates is not Alexandros, and critics are quick to point this out. Nikapolis has flourished more since the loss of the corrupt former governor, but there are those with complaints still, and there is always the issue of his not having true battle experience. The last one is becoming more and more relevant as tensions rise with the families and the city states.[/style] |
