The Mavros have a complete control over the seas, and have the strongest navy of all of the families. They are much stronger on the seas than on land, but they do have some strength; they are perhaps one of the weakest in the pure military might category of the families, but they have their extraordinary navy and their cunning. The Mavros focus a great deal on education and intelligence, and they allow themselves often to be underestimated so they can use their skills to the fullest advantage while other families get angry or lash out. The Mavros wait. Their family color is black and their animals are a snake and a dolphin; there is controversy about which animal suits the family better, and the family is split about which they want to use, though the snake is more popular.
All lands in the Mavros control are hubs of education with the largest number of universities and higher learning places of known world renown. Their philosophers and teachers are among the most famous and the most skilled, which leads to the Mavros having exceedingly well designed cities and economies as well as strategies and tactics, though their scholars are not as focused on violence as others. The Mavros are known for their intelligence and cunning by the other families, and are known as being cunny, sneaky, and witty to a certain degree, though many still often fail to take them completely seriously.
They are major traders and, in fact, have one of the healthiest, wealthiest economies of the factions. Their ships have had contact with many far-reaching places of the world that others have not yet met, and so their cities often carry a level of diversity lacking in other places. Their family, of course, is not tarnished by such impure blood, but they do find more types of people and are generally more accepting of new ideas than others.
The family appearance of the Mavros is dark haired with light eyes and fairer skin, as if the Prasinos and the Kianos mixed to create a whole new family. Perhaps back thousands of years that was what happened, but the Mavros hold no connection or bond with the Prasinos or Kianos especially as being “parent families” for their origins. There is little variation within the Mavros, perhaps the least of the families, as almost everyone in the family has the dark hair-light eyes mixture.
Claim to the throne: The Mavros claim is looser than others, but their education and collection of scholarly scrolls and works allows them to manipulate information to suit them the best and to fool others who may disagree with them. A cousin of the king, the son of a maternal aunt, founded the Mavros clan by building a port city. He then shot through the ranks and was one of the five high ranking generals who eventually split and lead their respective families. The Mavros general was said to be a favorite of the king, a close advisor who had more said than maybe even the king’s council. Thus, he was already in power, not the Prasinos general, by advising the king already before his death; the Mavros general was in the prime position to step in, as he was a relative of the king, but the ambitious others split and took their own before the Mavros general could unite them.
